Travelers Rest Could Be The Key To SECA Late Model Championship

Labor Day racing and the honoring of a fallen police officer await the motorsports faithful on Monday Sept 4th with the Allen Jacobs Memorial at Travelers Rest Speedway. Headlining the card with be the final 2017 SRI Performance $2,000 To Win Bonus Race presented by RockAuto.com

Inman, SC driver David Smith has the hot hand at TR thus far thanks to his collection of every crate late model victory at the speedway in 2017. However, this event should offer some additional flare and challenge as some of the best in the Southeast have plans to attend this event.

The bonus structure has many SECA championship contenders looking to add an event in order to drop their lowest SRI Performance Bonus Race outing. Dillon Brown, Timbo Mangum, and Trent Ivey are sitting 1st-3rd atop the standings with each claiming one Bonus Race win in 2017 (other winners were Michael Brown and Justin Williams). While Brown currently only holds a 6 point lead heading into Labor Day weekend, it appears that the championship may once again be settled on the final weekend (Weekly points conclude on September 16th).

The Travelers Rest Labor Day weekend races have been some of most successful weekends for Scott Childress and the speedway. However this will also be the last event for Childress as he is handing the managerial duties of the South Carolina venue over to new promoter Eddie Ray. Ray, a California native, will be a co-promoter with Childress for this event before taking over full time duties. There are currently no major changes planned for the 2017 season given the great existing foundation at the speedway. Ray and his staff are already forming plans and working on a 2018 racing schedule for the racers and fans at Travelers Rest Speedway.

While there is an exciting race to look forward to, let us not forget the real reason that inspires this event. Allen Jacobs, an Army veteran and dedicated police officer, was shot in the line of duty back in March of 2016. "The Greenville community has been very supportive of the Jacobs Family. Through this event, it is truly an honor to be able to extend our help to someone who put their life on the line serving and protecting the citizens of this country and this county", stated Childress.

Join us on Monday evening as we celebrate the life and memory of our community friend with fellowship and an action packed night of racing!
