Brown Captures First SECA Bonus Race Win

Checking off one of his preseason goals in impressive fashion, Dillon Brown added to his 2017 championship lead by scoring his 1st career SRI Performance Bonus Race presented by victory this past Saturday night at Sumter Speedway.

As the Sumter faithful gathered in anticipation of great racing action, the night did not disappoint. In SRI Performance Time Trials, Brown topped the charts with a lap of 15.517 and edged out Thomas Robinson’s lap of 15.522. Overall the Top 4 in time trials was separated by a mere 7 hundreths of a second!

Turn one proved to be a challenge once the racers were lined up for the main event. Two multi-car incidents left several cars with damage, while some were sent pit side. On the third attempt, all drivers were able to navigate Sumter’s sweeping corners time after time which allowed Brown to set the pace and develop a rhythm while the fueled jockeyed for position behind him. Fourth starting Timbo Mangum moved into 2nd as Robinson reclaimed 3rd from Kerry Gibbons.

With mostly clear race track ahead, Brown was able to steer clear of trouble having only one lap car to navigate over the 30 lap feature. Brown went on to secure his first SRI SECA Bonus Race win as Mangum and Robinson rounded out the Top 3. Hank Taylor and Joshua Bishop rounded out the Top 5 finishers.

“We have been wanting one of these wins and big checks for a long time. I thank God for blessing me and my family. I must also thank my brother....he puts in so much of his time for our racing program. My mom, dad, I just want to thank them all. We have been so close and this just feels good", stated Brown in Victory Lane.

This marked Brown's first win at Sumter Speedway and his 6th SECA Late Model win of 2017. Mangum continues his solid season and Robinson extended his current streak of Top 3 finishes.
