Justin Williams Backs Up 2016 Finish With 2017 Outlaw Showdown Win

After finishing 2nd in the SECA Late Model segment of the 2016 Outlaw Showdown, Justin Williams was able to exceed last year's performance and capture his first SECA victory this past Friday night at The Dirt Track @ Charlotte.

With the 37 car field being split into 2 Time Trial groups, the Top 5 of each group would be locked into the feature. Williams was the fastest of Group 1, but it was Timbo Mangum carrying the torch by leading Group 2 and laying down the fastest overall time of the evening. The B-Main races saw ‘Rambo’ Dennis Franklin and Dillon Brown, both of Gaffney SC collect preliminary wins.

With the field set, Williams and Mangum led the field to green. Williams was able to jump out to an early lead and while most cars were utilizing the bottom of the wide sweeping speedway, Mt. Holly’s Chris Ferguson was trying to make a charge by rolling momentum via the top side of the track

Utilizing two early restarts to his advantage, Thomas Robinson was able to fight his way up to the 2nd position just in time for the long green flag run to end the race. However, Robinson had no plans to stay there, as the leaders went under the line with three laps to go. Williams left the bottom open and Robinson was able to close in on the leader. As they came to the strip the next time, Robinson was clearing Williams and appeared to have command. Williams opted to attempt the crossover and the two cars made contact sending Robinson into a four wheel slide. Neither car would lose another position and Williams was able to lead the closing laps on his way to secure the win.

“This is the biggest crowd that I have ever won in front of” an excited Williams exclaimed. We got together there late, both of us wanted to win, and I thought I was clear when the contact happened. That’s racing and it just worked out for my team this time”.

In addition to the exciting action on the track, a mid-evening announcement was made that SECA would once again partner with The Dirt Track @ Charlotte for the 2018 Outlaw Showdown!
